Why Local Flowers Matter to Us
Before I was ever a floral designer, I was a flower farmer.
My journey into floral design didnβt begin in a studio or at a weddingβit began in the soil. Planting seeds. Watching the seasons change. Learning patience, resilience, and reverence for the quiet magic that happens between planting and harvest. That foundation has shaped everything we do at Yarrow & James Floral Design.
There is something profoundly special about tucking a stem into a bridal bouquet that I personally grew on our flower farm in Martindale. I know its entire life storyβfrom the moment the seed was planted, to the days it weathered the Texas sun, to the exact morning it was harvested at peak perfection. That connection is something you can feel, even if you canβt quite put it into words.
Flowers With a Story
Using locally grown flowers allows us to design with intention and meaning. These blooms arenβt anonymous. Theyβre not just βproduct.β They are living things that have been nurtured with care, harvested by hand, and brought directly into your wedding or event. When possible, we source flowers grown on our own farm and from other local farmers who share the same valuesβquality over quantity, sustainability over speed, and beauty rooted in seasonality.
Local flowers are fresher, more vibrant, and often more expressive. They move differently. They open naturally. They reflect the exact moment in time your celebration is taking place. No two seasonsβand no two weddingsβare ever the same.
Balancing Local + Global
While local flowers are at the heart of what we do, we also believe in sourcing the very best blooms available for lifeβs most precious moments. Some flowers simply arenβt grown locally or arenβt in seasonβand when thatβs the case, we thoughtfully source premium blooms from trusted growers around the world.
Our approach is never either/or. Itβs about balance.
We combine locally grown, seasonal flowers with globally sourced specialty blooms to create designs that feel elevated, intentional, and deeply personal. Every stem is chosen with care, whether it was grown a few steps from our studio or traveled across oceans to be part of your story.
A More Thoughtful Way to Design
Choosing local flowers is about more than sustainabilityβitβs about connection. Connection to the land, to the seasons, to the people growing your flowers, and to the moments they help celebrate. It slows us down in the best way and reminds us that beauty doesnβt need to be rushed.
At Yarrow & James, flowers arenβt just dΓ©cor. They are a living, breathing part of your dayβeach stem carrying history, care, and intention.
And that is why local flowers will always matter to us.
